Tips for Potty Training Boys

Potty training boys can be a little harder than the usual training for toddlers.  Statistics show that boys take longer to potty train than girls do.  But with patience and creativity, the process can be fun as it is edifying for both parents and kids.

Here are some of the practical tips for potty training boys:

  • Parents should find out of their kids are ready for potty training.  This process should not be forced upon the kids.  The least that parents would want is to encounter resistance from their kids.  Therefore, parents should determine the right timing to potty train their kids.
  • Map out your plan for the potty training.  As boys take longer to train than girls do, parents should find ways to make the training more creative than usual.  Using potty training tools such as potty training seat, potty training pants, and the likes can increase the success rate of the training.
  • Since most kids learn something through imitation, fathers should participate in potty training their sons.  They should take the time to show to their sons the correct way to eliminate their waste.
  • It is normal for kids to commit blunders or struggle with their potty training. Parents should refrain from getting angry or worst punishing their sons for the mistakes.  Instead parents should encourage through positive reinforcement such as praising their sons generously whenever they do it correctly.

Parents should understand that potty training is not something that they should not impose upon their children especially their sons who may resist it initially.  Potty training boys should be a natural process where the learning experience is rewarding.
